Controls:

Hover over the edges of the screen to transition scenes. Click on text to hear a narration for the current scene.

Design Process/Goals:

My design goal for this project was to simulate a children’s storybook. I wanted the user to be able to “flip” through pages and see a showcase of the game’s world, kinda like an adventure. I hand-drew the scenes with crayon to begin establishing this child-like theme. The narration with the text and the page turning sound effect were also there to further enhance this theme. I initially had the text be in this chalk based font, but it did not look aesthetically pleasing with the background drawings so I went with a soft welcoming, but firm font for the scenes other than the title/poster. The cursor was made simple with this trail to add another element of playfulness and heighten this flipping motion between scenes, but when I found issues with having the transitions based on position it was easy to skip the middle as well as unintentionally leave the scene; thus I made it time based when hovering over an edge of the scene.

I had no prior experience working in p5 so it was a cumbersome process going through the references page and AB testing testing what was possible. There was a lot of refinement with the controls to make it feel more comfortable rather than rigid which can be seen with the responsive pages based on screen size and hovering for a specific time to go to the next scenes.

All in all, I am happy with what I learned in creating this p5 project and the player experience it brings.
